Event Details and Schedule

 

Location

  • Registration, walk start and finish for all walks will be at the Archie Browning Sports Centre at 1151 Esquimalt Road, Esquimalt, Victoria. It is located about 3 kilometres from downtown Victoria.
  • Free parking is available at the Archie Browning Sports Centre.
  • Bus number 6 travels frequently between Esquimalt and downtown Victoria.
  • Bus number 26 travels between Esquimalt and the University of Victoria and passes  shopping malls and hotels.

Other Information

  • All walks are non-competitive.
  • All walks cost $2 per person per walk – no free walks, no group discounts.
  • Route Maps: Each walker will be provided with a detailed map and directions when they register for the walk.
  • All walks will have an optional group start but walkers go at their own pace. Or you may choose to walk on your own at a different time.
  • Dogs are allowed on all walks but they must be kept on a leash and are not allowed in the Archie Browning Sports Centre.

Pins and patches

  • A limited number of Festival pins will be available for sale at a price of $5 per pin.  No other awards or certificates will be presented although all walkers can receive a stamp credit for distance covered and events.

Friday, April 17th, 2009  Friendship Walks    

 

A  5 km or 10 km easy walk through Esquimalt

     

      Schedule:

 

 3 pm to 6 pm  Registration desk open
 4 pm  Group start for 5 km and 10 km walks
 5 pm to 7:30 pm  Informal Meet and Greet at the Archie Browning Sports Centre with nibblies and a cash bar
 7:30 pm  Archie Browning Sports Centre closes

 

 

Saturday, April 18th, 2009  
 

These walks explore Victoria’s parks, trails, and neighborhoods. Walkers may choose their distance: 5 km, 10 km, 21 km, 32 km or 42 km (marathon). Non-competitive, there will be optional group starts for each walk but walkers go at their own pace.

      

      Schedule:

 

 6:30 am to 5 pm  Registration desk open
 7 am  Group start for marathon 42 km walk
 8 am  Group start for the 32 km walk
 9 am  Group start for the 21 km walk
 10 am  Group start for the 5 km and 10 km walks
 5 pm  Archie Browning Sports Centre closes
 5 pm to 10 pm  Informal get-together at the Maple Room, Strathcona Hotel, 919 Douglas Street, Victoria 

     

The Archie browning Centre Lounge will sell lunches and the bar will be open between 12 noon and 2 p.m. No pre-ordering is required. This provides a comfortable place to meet and chat with your fellow walkers while making plans for more walking or exploring in the afternoon.

 

Checkpoints: For the 32 km and 42 km walks water and snacks will be available at Beaver Lake Park between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

 

For the 21 km, 32 km and 42 km walks water and snacks will be available at Saanich Municipal Hall between 11:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

 

Please carry along your own snacks and water to eat and drink between checkpoints.

 

Washrooms are available at the checkpoint and the walks pass near restaurants and convenience stores with snacks for sale.

 

 

Sunday, April 19th, 2009 VABC President’s Walks

 

      Enjoy more of Victoria’s and Esquimalt’s neighborhoods and parks. Walkers may choose from 5 km, 10 km and 21 km walks.

 

      Schedule:   

 

 
 7:30 am to 1 pm  Registration desk open
 8 am  Group start for the 21 km walk
 10 am  Group start for the 5 km and 10 km walks
 12 noon  Lunch available at the Archie Browning Sports Centre
 1:30  Festival closing ceremonies
 1:45 pm to 2:30 pm  VABC Informal Meeting
 2:45 pm to 4 pm  VABC AGM

 

 

Checkpoints: For the 21 km walk water and snacks will be available near Dallas Road and Memorial Crescent between 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

 

Lunch is available at the Archie Browning Centre for $10 but must be booked at least one week in advance (using the Registration of Intentions form).

 

The VABC Informal Meeting and AGM are open to all members of VABC Volkssport clubs.
