Walks

Thursday evening, April 20:  at 6 pm, the Garden City Wanderers will host a 5/10 km walk through James Bay, Beacon Hill Park and along the ocean waterfront and Inner Harbour. The start point is Harbour Towers Hotel, 345 Quebec Street.  Walkers will return in time to see the lights of the city and stop for a meal or other refreshment in one of the many downtown restaurants or pubs.

Friday morning, April 21:  at 9 am, the Victoria "Y" Volkssport Club will host a 5/10 km walk featuring the Fernwood neighbourhood, which is emerging as a heritage and cultural zone, with its Victorian-era architecture, artisan bakery and community theatre, before going through the lovely gardens of Government House. The start point is the Victoria YM-YWCA, 851 Broughton Street.. Walkers will finish in time to go out to the festival site, have lunch and then do an open start walk.

5-12 km open start walks will be available throughout the festival; 21, 32 and 42 km Ocean View trails on Saturday; 21 km Saanich trail on Sunday.

  • Lake Trails are mostly on a broad, well-maintained walking path on the shores of scenic Elk and Beaver Lakes.
  • Broadmead Trails meander around a nature reserve and beneath towering evergreens
  • Ocean View Trails. Greater Victoria is surrounded by the ocean, and what better place to “See the Sea” than from these walks.  As a bonus, there are likely to be super views of the Olympic and Cascade Mountains.
  • Saanich Trails. Public parks and local trails will show off the spring foliage.

Monday, April 24:  at 9:30 am the Juan de Fuca Pathfinders will host a  5/10 km walk Royal Roads walk along West Coast forest trails, past Hatley Castle and along the ocean’s edge. As it is Canada's 150th birthday this year, the route will go through 2 National Historic Sites - Hatley Park and Fort Rodd Hill. This will give you two points on the 'Go for 30' challenge.  The start point is the Juan de Fuca Recreation Centre, 1767 Island Hwy (Hwy 14), in Colwood.

In addition, there are many other Permanent Trails available throughout the Victoria area and beyond. Why not spend a few more days before or after the Festival to enjoy visiting a few of these beautiful locations? Details available by clicking here.

Swim

We are pleased to introduce a swim event this year. We have set aside two lanes at Saanich Commonwealth Place (across the parking lot from the Greek Community Centre) from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Saturday and Sunday. Anyone who registers can swim at those times for no additional cost other than their $2.00 registration fee. Mike Schlegel will be there to oversee the event. Any type of flotation device can be used. If there is room in the shallow pool people can even walk the 300 metres. There will be a certificate and event stamp for anyone completing the event at those times. If people do not have a swimsuit they can do the event in a t-shirt and shorts. We also want to encourage people who are doing the 'Go for 30' challenge to celebrate CVF's 30th anniversary. We believe this may be the only swim event in Canada this year.
